Cheick Diallo is one of those who have chosen to bet on Mali. After an international career that commanded respect and admiration, this fifty-year-old decided to return home in 2014 to put his art and talent at the service of his compatriots.
Born in the 1960s, he moved to France in 1991 to pursue architectural studies and eventually graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI), one of France’s most prestigious design schools.Although far from his native Mali, Cheick Diallo has always worked for his country by training artisans and involving them in the creation of many of his works.A true advocate of artisanal craftsmanship, he works his magic by reimagining everyday objects through a contemporary and innovative vision. His commitment to promoting "Made in Africa" design was formalized with the creation of the Association of African Designers (ADA), where he has served as president since 2004.His work has been recognized multiple times with prestigious awards, including the most recent one, granted by ELLE DECORATION magazine in 2014, naming him Designer of the Year.His creations are now part of the permanent collections of major museums in France, England, Switzerland, Belgium, and the United States.Influenced by both Anglo-Saxon and French design schools, Cheick Diallo embraces cultural fusion as the guiding principle of his creations.
